June 28th BOE meeting notes:

] Had a presentation by Hill Associates as to where they are on the school projects. They claim that they are on budget for all projects. The also claim they are on schedule, but they were still talking about roofing projects being 99% done. I thought these we supposed to be complete last fall?

] Mostly personnel items and busing routes in the handouts. A check list on re-district transition progress was also handed out. Board passed all agenda items. Larry asked about test results and was told they were still collating them. As usual, Cathy Zavorskas reminded Larry that the tests are different than last year. Classic strategy to weasel out of poor results. I wonder what she knows?

] Young woman from the middle school gave a speech about why Darwin should not be the only evolution theory taught. Board member Art Fumarola had predictably silly comments on the speech, which I will refrain from quoting.

] Chuck Kenny notified the BOE of attractive nuisances (uncovered storm drains, dumpsters and debris) over by the High School. Mr. Gross was particularly annoyed by this, since the district has now been informed , they must take action or their insurance may not cover them in the event of an incident or injury. Laura Ventner also asked that the superintendent be informed first. Photography could be a valuable recreational activity summer when the construction really gears up ! Get those digital cameras ready!

] Don blasted the administration on the size of the supply list required by students (this was supposed to be reduced as part of redistrict) and also on the fact that busing sheets were not delivered to everyone.

] Linda Rossi got up and complained about the 6th grade social studies Tera-Nova, because her son got a bad grade or something. Mr. Rodgers was going to look into it.

] Darlene Gallagher asked why the 1st grade Tera-Nova test results were not distributed to parents. Apparently they use these for G&T recruitment. Once again Mr. Rodgers was going to look into it. I wonder what the "criteria" to get into G&T really is?

] I asked them to post both the agenda items and minutes on the website. Laura Ventner was not sure if they had space? They have space for last year's schedule? Board said they would do it. I also asked for the meetings to be televised and shown on public access.

Ken
