ABERDEEN -- The Matawan-Aberdeen Regional Board of Education approved a contract Monday that will keep Superintendent Bruce Quinn in the district through at least 2009. The new contract, which runs from Feb. 14 of this year through June 30, 2009, replaces an existing agreement that was set to expire in June 2006, said Laura Venter, business administrator and board secretary.

The pact was approved because school officials needed to inform Quinn by the end of this year whether they were renewing his contract, she said. Quinn's annual salary will remain unchanged in the new contract, Venter said. Quinn, who came to the regional district in 2002, is making $134,626 this year, she said.

"(The) bulk of the contract remains unchanged," said Venter, who declined to comment further until Quinn signed the new agreement."I think it's just a very fair contract and that he's keeping in mind that he's a member of this community," board President Catherine T. Zavorskas said. "He loves the job and we all feel we're very lucky to have him."
